Proven and Innovative Technology

Worldwide Leaders in Egg Banking
The World Egg Bank is distinguished among Egg Banks throughout the world. Many physicians enjoy working with the World Egg Bank for these reasons:
A Unique and Highly Reputable Board
The World Egg Bank developed and tested the technologies to make frozen egg banking possible. Our Scientific Director, Dr. Jeffrey Boldt, pioneered research and development of oocyte freezing and thawing, and made it a viable alternative to fresh donor egg cycles.
Proven and Innovative Technology Endorsed by the Industry Leaders
Dr. Jeffrey Boldt’s published data clearly demonstrated that oocyte cryopreservation could be performed with reproducible success, leading to excellent survival rates and viable offspring (Human Reproduction, Vol. 18, No. 6 pp. 1250-1255, 2003).
Unmatched Experience in Delivering Quality Donor Eggs
To our knowledge, The World Egg Bank has delivered more donor eggs than any other bank worldwide.
Experience Working with Hundreds of Recipients
The World Egg Bank was founded with the idea that the recipient experience could involve choice of donor and comforting guidance throughout the donor egg process.

Egg Donor Compensation

You Can earn Compensation
We recognize that donating an egg takes time and effort on your part. The World Egg Bank compensates you $3,500 - $5,000 US for your role in the egg donation process. The actual amount depends on the state where you live. We issue a check to you on the day of egg retrieval.

You aren't responsible for any out-of-pocket expenses as an egg donor. This means that all fees and medical costs related to your egg donation are paid by the woman receiving your eggs, or The World Egg Bank. We’ll also cover any long distance travel costs. You are responsible only for transporting yourself to and from local doctor's appointments.

Some Egg Donor Questions Answered

What Kind of Relationship Will I Have with the Recipient?
That is between you and the recipient. Some donors and recipients never actually meet and have no real emotional relationship or contact. In other cases, the donor and recipient share a powerful emotional experience together and form a bond. Ultimately, The World Egg Bank will help you and your recipient decide what type of relationship is best for both of you.

Will I Have a Relationship with the Child?
This is ultimately a choice for the recipient. Most recipients are deeply grateful for the opportunity made possible by the donor to bear a child, but then wish to have an exclusive relationship with the child.

Occasionally, recipients welcome the involvement of the donor in the child’s life. That gives the donor an important choice.

We Guide You at Every Step of the Way
The World Egg Bank has worked with over 1,000 egg donors, and we have personally guided each donor through the egg donation process. Once approved as an egg donor, a representative of our staff is assigned to you and is available whenever you have questions.

Medical Acceptance of Your Egg Donor Choice

Medical Acceptance
Your physician will help you decide, based on his or her own criteria, what makes a donor more to suitable than another to provide the outcome you desire.

It is our firm belief, based on years of experience with couples who have had children with our egg donors, and World Egg Bank’s founder’s own experience having 3 children conceived with the help and generosity of an egg donor, that families are built upon relationship and bonding much more so than genetic traits. Once you are able to move beyond the grieving of the loss of your own genetic history, concerns about the origin of your child’s biological make-up become less important. However, it is important to understand this is a highly emotional decision, and objectively understand that the true potential to select a donor based on her physical and personal characteristics that are similar to your own, is not as clear and predictable as most commonly perceive.

Our World Egg Bank Team

The World Egg Bank Management Team
Diana Thomas, M.A.
President & CEO
In 1995, Diana Thomas recruited a donor to conceive her first son. Drawing from that experience, in 1996, Diana founded X and Y Consulting, Inc. an international egg donor recruiting agency that matched couples across the US and Canada with donors throughout the world. She has since managed over 2,000 donor-recipient matches.
Frustrated by the challenges involved in Fresh Egg Donation, in 2004, Diana, Drs. Jeffrey Boldt and James Akin founded Cryo Eggs International LP. In 2005, these efforts led the world’s first “frozen egg bank baby.”
Diana had her own three children with the assistance of egg donors, and has considerable experience working with the complex needs of recipients seeking out a donor’s assistance. Her unique perspective and dedication to both donors and recipients have been the foundation of The World Egg Bank.

Jeffrey Boldt, Ph.D.
Scientific Director
Dr. Boldt is one of the early US pioneers in early egg freezing technology. Dr. Boldt has lectured extensively and authored many national and international articles on infertility, and serves as both Program and Scientific Director, Assisted Fertility Services for Community Hospital-Indianapolis and Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University School of Medicine.

James W. Akin, MD, FACOG

Frozen Donor Eggs

Frozen Egg Donation
In 2005, the physicians of The World Egg Bank perfected egg freezing/thawing. By removing the need ot match the timing between the donor and recipient, many of the logistical issues in the Fresh Egg Process are no longer applicable.

Frozen Egg Donation is the preferred process because:

1.It eliminates the need for cycle synchronization between donor and recipient
2.It does not require the donor to travel to complete the donation.
3.It Permits the recipient to receive tested mature eggs immediately and to fertilize and implant them depending only on her own schedule.

Because studies have shown that using fresh eggs and frozen eggs has no material impact on the likelihood of achieving fertilization, this is the method most frequently used by The World Egg Bank.

Frozen Donor Egg FAQ's

Why should I use frozen donor eggs instead of fresh donor eggs?
Frozen donor eggs are safer from infectious disease due to the 6-month quarantine. Also, with frozen donor eggs are immediately available., the selection is greater and availability is more immediate. Coordination of menstrual cycles with the fresh donor is eliminated allowing more flexibility in the frozen donor egg cycle. Finally, using frozen donor eggs can be cheaper than a comparable fresh donor IVF cycle, and you are sure of the outcome, while eliminating unexpected costs.

Why do the frozen eggs cost so much?
The price of the frozen eggs available for sale reflects the costs incurred by The World Egg Bank for donor recruitment, genetic and psychological screening, testing for infectious diseases, stimulation medication and egg retrieval costs, egg freezing and storage fees, donor legal fees, donor emergency medical insurance and donor compensation. Many donors are screened before we select the few that meet the standards of The World Egg Bank.

The Ease of our Frozen Donor Eggs

Frozen Eggs
Pregnancy using already retrieved, frozen donor egg is truly a tremendous step forward. In 2004, scientists at The World Egg Bank developed egg freezing technologies now used by fertility doctors throughout the world. The World Egg Bank screens, prepares the donor eggs and retrieves them before you even see them on our roster. Instead of attempting fertilization right away, we freeze the eggs and store them for later use.

At a time of your choosing, the eggs are shipped within days to your doctor, where they are thawed and fertilized. Independent research shows that the probability of success is essentially the same in both the frozen and fresh egg processes.

The frozen egg process happens on your own schedule, and this means that there’s no need to synchronize your menstrual cycle with your egg donor’s. You do not have to wait for 3 – 6 months, or longer, for the egg donor to complete screening and egg retrieval, nor accept the risks of dealing with obstacles along the way and unexpected costs. This also eliminates the need for an egg donor to travel.. Finally, each of our egg donors are rigorously tested and only healthy looking, mature eggs are frozen. For these reasons, a growing number of our clients prefer the frozen egg process.

Motivations for Becoming an Egg Donor

The Emotional Side of Egg Donation
Every woman has her own reasons for becoming an egg donor. For some, it’s a unique opportunity to give a part of themselves to help create a life, while for others the cause is noble and the financial rewards alluring.
As you explore your own reasons for choosing to become an egg donor, you may also be thinking about these issues.
How Will Friends and Family View My Egg Donation?
Donating such a personal part of yourself is an emotional experience both for the recipient and for you, the egg donor. It is critical that you have a good support structure around you as you go through the process.
For this reason, be sure to communicate openly about your decision with your closest friends and family so that they will understand the subtle changes in your daily schedule and body rhythms. Friends and family will often have their own questions about the egg donation process, and you may refer them to this website for more information.
The World Egg Bank has worked with over 1,000 egg donors, and we have personally guided each donor through the egg donation process. Once approved as an egg donor, a representative of our staff is assigned to you and is available whenever you have questions.

Selecting Your Egg Donor

One of the Most Important Decisions You’ll Make
Selecting an Egg Donor is a decision that is new to anyone whose doctor has suggested this is one of their most hopeful options for conception. Every recipient has a different idea about what would make an ideal donor. These are some of the factors commonly considered:
Comfort level
Whether you meet the donor in person or never meet the donor, based on the available information you do have, it is relevant for most people to consider their ability to identify with the donor. Do you feel drawn to her? Does she somehow feel familiar? Do you like what she writes about herself, do her personality traits seem compatible with your own?
Physical Resemblance
Many recipients try to find the donor that is an exact physical match to what they look like. The truth is you can’t, although you can select a donor from a particular ethnic group, of a similar height, of similar complexion, or other isolated features in common. Keep in mind that physical resemblance is just one factor, and not necessarily genetic. A donor and her sister may not look at all alike, so you may not have a child that closely resembles the donor. Genetically speaking, there are many variables that are entirely unpredictable. Keep an open mind, and consider that you may be able to increase probabilities, but not certainties, when trying to find a donor that matches your family profile.
